Abstract:
A spectrophotometric study of osmium (VIII) complex of 1-hydroxy 2- pyridine thione (HPT) is presented. A red-violet complex, 0 s (HPT) is formed in a highly acidic solution, and shows maximum absorbance at 500 nm with molar absorptivity of 5.12 x 101. mol . cm . Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 3-60 ppm. Sandel's sensitivity of the method is 0.37 ?g.cm per0.001 ab sorbance unit. V (V), Pt (IV), Cu (II), Sn (IV), Cr (VI), and NO . interference. To overcome the interference and improve the selectivity, the 0 s (VIII) as OsO isextracted inCC1 and theextracted 0s (VIII) is converted to the complex and measured spectrophotometrically. This method reduces the number of interferences to V(V), Pt (IV), and NO -. The method offers the advantages of simplicity, speed and high precision. A spot test for the detection of traces of osmium is also presented

Solvent Extraction Spectrophotometric Determination of Vanadium Using Sodium Salt of 2-Mercapto-Pyridine-N-Oxide as a Reagent
A solvent-extraction spectrophotometric technique is proposed as a new method for determination of trace quantities of vanadium. Sodium salt of 2-mercapto-pyridine-N-oxide (thione) forms a complex with vanadium instantaneously. The purple 1:2 complex is formed of pH 2.3, easily extracted in chloroform and shows strong absorbance at 500 nm. The extracted complex is found to obey Beer's law i...
full textSpectrophotometric determination of osmium(VIII) in trace amounts using ethylene thiourea (ETU) as chromogenic reagent
A simple and highly sensitive spectrophotometric method has been described for the determination of trace amount of osmium(VIII) using ethylene thiourea (ETU) as a chromogenic reagent. The method is based on the formation of an instantaneous purple coloured complex at room temperature by the reaction of osmium(VIII) with ETU in strongly acidic (pH=1) solution having absorption maximum at 490 nm...
full textHighly selective first order derivative spectrophotometric determination of osmium(VIII) using anthranilic acid as a chromogenic reagent
A simple, selective and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of osmium(VIII) using anthranilic acid as a reagent in the presence of Triton X-100. The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity of the violet coloured species are 3.03 × 10 L mol cm and 3.5 ng cm respectively. Beer’s law is obeyed between 0.5-5.5 μg mL of Os(VIII) at 500 nm. The stoichiome...
full textSynthesis of 6-(2-Methoxynaphthyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4-triazine-3-thione as a New Reagent for Spectrophotometric Determination of Copper
A simple, sensitive, accurate, and green spectrophotometric method for the determination of Cu(II) using newly synthesized reagent, 6-(2-methoxynaphthyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4-triazine-3-thione (MNDTT), has been developed. MNDTT was synthesized based on the acylation of methoxy naphthalene and reaction of the product with amyl nitrite, which upon reaction with thiosemicarbazide yielded 6-(2-meyhoxy...
full textSynthesis of 5,6-Diphenyl-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4-triazine-3-thione as a New Reagent for Spectrophotometric Determination of Palladium
A new chromogenic reagent for the sensitive and selective determination of Pd ions in aqueous solution was synthesized. The reagent, 5,6-diphenyl-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4-triazine-3-thione, forms colored complexes with a few heavy metal ions. A 1:1 (M:L) yellowish orange colored complex of DPhDTT-Pd was formed in methanol. The molar absorptivity is 6.67×10 L mol cm. Bee’s law was obeyed in the concent...
full textSynthesis of 6-(Phenanthrene-3-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,2,4,-triazine-3-thione as a New Reagent for the Non-Extractive Spectrophotometric Determination of Cu(II)
A simple, sensitive, and non-extractive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of copper (II) using a newly synthesized chromogenic reagent, 6-(phenanthrene-3-yl)-1,2,4,-triazine-3-thione(PhDTT), in Tween 80 neutral surfactant. To synthesize the reagent (PhDDT), amyl nitrite was added to 3-acethylphenanthrene and refluxed for 26 hours to produce 2-oxo-2-(phenanthren-3...
